The story goes that the Sultan beheaded a new wife each night, before marrying another the next day. His newest partner, Scheherazade, avoided the same fate by telling wonderful tales every evening. When she admitted, after 1001 nights, that she had no more stories to tell, the Sultan had fallen so deeply in love with her that she was spared.
