Whether you are considering Hornington Manor as your potential wedding venue, or have already booked with us, you probably have a few questions. Our most frequently asked questions from brides and grooms can be found below. Have a browse and if your question hasn’t been answered, please get in contact with us – we will be happy to help you.
How many guests can Hornington Manor sleep?
Hornington Manor has 20 bedrooms, sleeping up to 44 guests across five different areas of the estate. There are also 8 additional individually designed shepherd huts, sleeping a further 16 guests. As well as this we have local off-site properties available, ranging from stylish apartments in the city of York, to cosy cottages in nearby Cawood.
Do we need to take all the accommodation?
For your wedding day, you have exclusive use of the venue, so you would be required to take the 20 internal bedrooms. The huts and properties away from the estate can be added on additionally.
Are Cots Available?
Yes, we have two cots available. These incur an additional cost of £15 each. Please ensure you request these from the team at least two weeks in advance, so they can be added to your booking and set up for your arrival.
Are guests able to camp in the grounds of Hornington Manor?
Unfortunately we cannot allow camping because we are set in the grounds of a working farm.
Do you have wheelchair accessible rooms?
We have an en-suite accessible room on the ground floor of the Servants’ Quarters. We also have several ground floor bedrooms for guests who struggle with stairs.
Is there any additional accommodation within the area?
Yes there is a wide range of additional accommodation from luxury apartments in York, to cosy cottages in Cawood. Please look at the Additional Accomodation Page for more information.
What day and time do we have access from?
You can have access to the barn from 12 noon until 5pm the day before your wedding to set up. You and your guests can then access the house from 3pm also, if you are staying the night before your wedding.
Do you offer mid-week weddings?
Yes we do offer mid-week weddings throughout the year. Please email us to check availability and to discuss your options in more detail.
How do we arrange a viewing?

Are we able to bring pets?
As we are in the grounds of a working farm, pets are strictly NOT permitted within the venue or grounds.
Is parking available?
Parking is available for approximately 50 cars. Please start at the top carpark near the shepherd huts and work your way forward. Supplier parking can be found to the rear of the property, so that your spaces are left free for your guests.
Are guests able to leave their cars overnight?
Yes, but we ask that they are collected on the day of departure by 10am. All vehicles left overnight are at the owners risk.
Is it easy to get taxis?
Due to our location, it is always best to pre-book taxis. We recommend Dougie’s and Station Taxis who are local to us. Please see our Plan Your Stay Page for more information.
What is included in the hire of the barn?
The hire of the wedding barn includes:
- Tables and chairs for up to 150 guests
- A cake table/gift table
- Use of wooden easel for your table plan
- Access to a fully stocked & staffed bar
- Table glassware for your wedding breakfast
- Full heating within the barn and toilets
- Beautiful ceiling drapes & fairy light backdrop
- Mezzanine chill-out area
- External catering access
- Use of the PA system for background music
- Use of the front lawn for your drinks reception and photos
- Dedicated events coordinator on the day of your wedding
In what way can we decorate the barn?
You can decorate the barn however you wish (within reason)! We allow candles within flame covered holders only, bunting and fairy lights to name a few. From large birch trees to a Midsummer’s Night Dream inspired barn, we have had some spectacular decorations. Take a look at our Suppliers List page and our Gallery for some amazing ideas.
How many guests can we have for the wedding breakfast?
The dining barn can seat up to 160 guests comfortably, with capacity for up to 200 guests for the evening reception.
What time are you licensed until?
We are licensed until Midnight. If you wish, we can apply for a late license which extends the bar service until 1am, the charge for this is £250.
Do you have a PA system for background music?
Yes, this is included in the price.
Do you have a microphone for speeches?
Yes.
Do you have highchairs?
We have four highchairs which would be available for you to use. Please let the team know in advance if you require them.
Is table linen included?
Table linen is not included in the hire of the wedding barn. There will be an additional charge for linen or you can upgrade your tables to linen free rustic trestles for £300
Are fireworks/Chinese lanterns allowed?
Unfortunately not. The venue is within the grounds of a working farm and these would endanger our livestock. We do allow sparklers though which make for a fabulous night-time photo!
Is Hornington Manor licensed for civil ceremonies?
Yes, we are fully licensed for civil ceremonies. Ceremonies can take place in either of our two barns or outside under the lychgate or the lawn.
Where are we able to hold our civil ceremony?
For those of you who like the idea of an outdoor ceremony, the Lych Gate in the Courtyard and the Manor Lawn are both licensed for civil ceremonies. Alternatively, you may wish to say your vows in our Russet Ceremony Barn with oak whale bone arches and signature lighting.
Do we book the registrar separately?
Yes, this is a legal requirement and would need to be booked directly through the North Yorkshire Registration Office.
We would like a church ceremony, is there a local church?
All Saints Church is situated in our beautiful village of Bolton Percy. You can even see the spire through the trees!
Do you allow confetti?
Yes, we do, outdoors only, as long as it is biodegradable for the safety of our animals.
Do you provide catering?
No, we do not have in-house caterers, we can recommend some fantastic local caterers who we work with regularly. Please see our Recommended Suppliers page. or alternatively, if you have someone specific you would like to use, please discuss that with us.
Are we able to use a caterer of our choice?
Of course, we are always happy for you to source your own – this gives you full control over your day. Please make us aware in advance so that we can liaise with them directly to make sure they have all the necessary paperwork and certificates.
Are we able to supply our own alcohol?
We DO NOT permit your own alcohol being brought into the barn, or being consumed throughout the wedding. We have lots of options available for you wedding day as well as well-stocked bar, offering a wide range of wines, spirits and soft drinks. We can even put together a bespoke package for you based on what is special to you and your family.
Are we able to try the wine before we select it?
We invite all couples to a wine-tasting evening at Hornington Manor, where you can select the wines that you would like throughout your day. Our lovely Bar Manager, will set out a range of wines and talk you through each option, before you choose a selection to try for yourself.
Are we able to make special requests for drinks?
We do have an extensive beer, wine and spirit menu. However if you have an extra-special request, please discuss it with us at your drinks tasting evening – we always aim to please.
