Katie and James, both doctors living in the lovely Tadcaster, arrived on the Friday, armed with family, friends, and miles and miles of homemade bunting! Katie’s mum had lovingly made the most beautiful hessian and white lace bunting and it was the first thing to go up in the barn! Their fabulous florist Wild Floral Couture dressed the tables with jam jars full of flowers and the Lych gate looked stunning with accents of purple.

Katie and James’s floral theme was lavender and it was used beautifully through the barn – their place settings were lavender sprigs with name tags, their seating plan sat in a crate of gorgeous lavender and the bridesmaids’ dresses were a beautiful lavender shade.

Katie looked absolutely stunning in her vintage lace and beaded gown and was whisked away to church in a white Land Rover Defender, complete with hessian ribbons! When the newly-weds returned, they were greeted to prosecco and ice-cold beers on the front lawn. Katie and James also provided a ‘Pimp your Prosecco’ stall which was filled with everything from rhubarb gin to limoncello to fresh strawberries and raspberries! Safe to say, their guests loved it!

Michael Mulholland played acoustic guitar and sang some wonderful songs under the apple trees of the orchard, and the guests enjoyed the glorious sunshine whilst Alexandra Holt, their fabulous photographer captured every moment. Come rain or shine, weddings at Hornington are always without hitch, and this proved to be true for Katie and James. As soon as the party moved into the barn for the wedding breakfast and speeches, the heavens opened and it didn’t stop all night! The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, as no one cared about the weather outside once eating, drinking, and dancing inside the wedding barn!

Bear’s Pantry rustled up the most delicious 3 courses for Katie, James and their loved ones. They enjoyed a huge charcuterie and sharing cheese board for starters, followed by lemon, garlic and herb spatchcock chicken, and finished up with a ‘Mega Eton Mess’, followed by a spicy chicken curry in the evening. Not only were James and Katie’s guests treated on the day, but Pizza Loco arrived on Friday evening, much to the guests delight, and the guys from Bear’s Pantry were back on the Sunday in charge of a huge BBQ to nurse a few hangovers in the sunshine!

When it was time for the speeches, Katie’s mum, Elaine, was up first. She revealed how as mother and daughter, the pair were bonded like superglue and gushed at how proud she was of Katie for qualifying as a doctor. We learnt how Katie and James met in second year at the University of Hull while both studying to become doctors. Their friendship soon turned into romance, and Katie now shines brighter for James’ love. Katie made it through her mum’s speech very tearfully!

Katie’s dad Rob then said a few words, letting Katie know how proud he is and how she has had great success in her career, and now life partner. Rob listed James’ best attributes – his sense of humour, his family values, his integrity, he makes a very good mojito, knows the best curry houses in Yorkshire, and has a genuine love for Katie.

The groom had many ‘Thank Yous’ to make in his speech – to his friends Matt and Megan who had travelled all the way from New Zealand to be there (and also scheduled in the visit as part of their own honey moon!) and family friends who had travelled from Abu-Dhabi and New York! He thanked Elaine, (aka ‘the sweatshop bunting slave’!) for all her help and support and professed that despite insistent mocking, he does truly respect her and is so grateful for everything she does. James thanked the bridesmaids stating they looked beautiful, even his sisters… and the ushers for planning a fab stag do! He then moved on to his beautiful new wife Katie, apologising for taking 3116 days to pop the question, but insisting good things come to those who wait! He revealed that his favourite times together are while watching box sets with cups of tea and their adopted furry baby Dotty, who would have exploded with excitement if she could have been at the celebration! James said is Katie’s biggest fan and is so lucky to have her as his wife.

James’ best man Kyle, also a GP, rounded up the speeches. He googled ‘How to write a best man’s speech’ and joked that the response wasn’t ‘prescribe a course of antibiotics’, so he was stumped! We learnt he and James first bonded at university over Pizza Hut buffet where James could devour 29 slices in one sitting, which warranted a round of applause from the guests!

It was clear from listening to the speeches that Katie and James are so well loved by their family and friends and they were all thrilled to be part of their big day. It was an absolute pleasure to host the celebrations and we hope the new Mr and Mrs Quinn have an amazing honeymoon in the Maldives and Sri Lanka!
